I am having the BEST time of my Prue Whoo life right now!!! I am now travelling extensively throughout country NSW delivering my Early Childhood Educational Music workshops to teachers & doing children’s shows for country kids. It’s a great feeling to be able to travel to smaller centres who don’t ordinarily get these types of opportunities. I am humbled by the support – thank you!

It is also with pleasure that wherever I go to present either my workshops or children’s shows, I raise funds for the Children’s Ward at the local hospital.

As a mother of a child who has a serious illness, I have spent more than my fair share of time in hospital with my son. Don’t regret a minute of it, but it’s tiring, exhausting, emotionally draining & separates you from the rest of your family. I am only too familiar with how hard these nurses work, not only are they there for the kids, but parents like me who have slept many a night sitting up in a chair next to my son’s bed. (He would HATE me talking about this by the way).

However….. I feel compelled to give back. There were many times as my son grew (we had 8 years of monthly hospital visits) that there were less and less age appropriate toys or things for him to do during his stays. That is why I want to raise funds wherever I go, so that as these kids become teenages, there might be more ‘hip’ rooms for them to ‘hang out’ in, access to their types of music & movies/internet games. Modular furniture, magazines, bean bags, I don’t know….but fun things for their age group I guess. As an aside, my son needs blood regularly (every month & still does). It takes 65 people to make one bottle of the blood/immunoglobulins he needs (he uses 2 1/2 bottles per month). That’s around 150 people’s blood per month. Please consider donating. It will make a difference to many, not only our family. Thanks.

I have been overwhelmed by the response and by the generosity of the educators & teachers so far who have dipped into their pockets and bought raffle tickets for this great cause. I donate one of my EYLF or K-2 teachers resource programs each time, and so the prize is not only of interest to them, but a benefit for the kids they teach. Last week it was won by a student teacher from Grafton….which I thought was wonderful.
I applaud those of you who have contributed and thank you all for your continued support of my passion to deliver syllabus content & musical education, infant learning through music & alternate ways of learning for all young children.

I have been reading, with interest, information from the Early Childhood Australia’s site regarding the value of The Arts in the development of the brain’s neuri-circuitry in children. Here’s the link if you want to read it for yourself http://www.earlychildhoodaustralia.org.au/every_child_magazine/every_child_index/new_evidence_linking_the_arts_and_learning_in_early_childhood.html .

Basically it says that with longstanding research, neuroscientists have declared that neural pathways in the brain are formed & shaped by early experiences. Especially in the first three to four years they say that rich experiences are necessary to build the brain’s neuro-circuitry. “This then influences development and general wellbeing & later academic performance in school”.

Children who are actively involved and engaged in singing, music & movement, storytelling and art & craft activities are significantly advantaged as this lays down unique brain connections that have short and long term impacts on the developmental pathways.

The Editor goes on to say ”that ensuring Early Childhood professionals are able to plan and implement appropriate visual and performing arts activities for young children requires a special focus in early childhood education training programs and in professional learnin program”.

It’s wonderful to think there are educators (& parents) out there who understand the value of using music and songs to stimulate & educate our young children. We certainly need many more who will look outside the square of traditional teaching methods. I am always delighted to see how my music workshops that are EYLF linked and also Early Primary curriculum linked transition teachers from those who were afraid of using music in the classroom to those who can’t wait to get back into their rooms to use this method of educating our young children whilst achieving outcomes in a fun & positive way.

TESTIMONIAL
“Prue Whoo’s workshop is interactive & relevant to my educators. They gained insight into the role quality music can play in supporting outcomes. Many have commented on the positive impact the workshop has had on the children within their services”. Renee, Area Manager, Goodstart Early Learning Centres.
